Snibston Colliery is a very important historic site – a ‘Super Pit’ once turning over 1,000,000 tons of coal a year – with unique site buildings that cannot be seen at any other British coal mine. The tour will take you through a mine machinery display, inside the colliery to the 1970’s Control Room, and the Lamp Room where the miner collected his electric cap lamp and his respirator and, if he was a Deputy, his flame safety lamp. You will then visit the miners’ favourite and least favourite rooms. The Pay Hall where he received his pay packet, and the dreaded Medical Centre, where the colliery Nurse reigned supreme. Some excited elves have fallen behind with their work schedule and need your help to get back on track! Help the elves search the 1620s House for the materials needed to make some magical festive gifts – and take part in their games and activities whilst you do – then head to the barn to complete a range of Christmas crafts. The elves will then tell you a Christmas Story before you take part in a magical snowball fight! £15 per child, pre-booking essential.

Get into the festive spirit with the 2025 National Champions, Desford Colliery Band, in a sparkling Christmas concert full of seasonal favourites. Renowned for their outstanding musicianship and thrilling sound, the band will perform a joyful programme of much‑loved carols, festive classics and holiday highlights. Perfect for families and music lovers alike, this uplifting evening promises championship‑winning brass and plenty of Christmas cheer. Ayres and Graces return to the 1620s Barn to sing songs, share poems and describe some of the customs associated with Advent and Christmas in the Tudor and Jacobean times, around the time the House was refurbished in 1620. They perform dressed in authentic costume and Nick plays copies of period instruments. A few more modern carols may creep into the programme but set with accompaniment on the lute by Lutenist and composer Brian Wright from Cornwall. We look forward to transporting you back 400 years!
