Hello Heritage 2026 is a free, month‑long celebration of North West Leicestershire’s rich history and culture, running 1–30 September. The festival brings villages and towns to life with heritage boards, guided walks, open days, exhibitions and hands‑on activities. ‘In The Care Of The Wild’ Art Exhibition by Katy Widdowson

Water colour artist Katy Widdowson brings her first solo exhibition 'In the care of the wild' to Coalville Can, exploring the emotional truth of being a carer and the healing presence of nature in life and art! Explore the exhibition at CAN HQ from the 16th of September to the 4th of October. You're also welcome to come along to an informal social on the evening of the opening. Meet the artist behind the exhibition and chat with other visitors from 6pm to 8pm on the 16th of September. Totally free to attend, with refreshments available

A Coal Miner’s Story – Snibston Colliery Tours

Snibston Colliery Park Ashby Road, Coalville

Snibston Colliery is a very important historic site – a ‘Super Pit’ once turning over 1,000,000 tons of coal a year – with unique site buildings that cannot be seen at any other British coal mine. The tour will take you through a mine machinery display, inside the colliery to the 1970’s Control Room, and the Lamp Room where the miner collected his electric cap lamp and his respirator and, if he was a Deputy, his flame safety lamp. You will then visit the miners’ favourite and least favourite rooms. The Pay Hall where he received his pay packet, and the dreaded Medical Centre, where the colliery Nurse reigned supreme.
